The 5 questions that helped me get back on track (When life felt like a mess)

There are seasons where everything just feels off.
Not completely falling apart. Not a full crisis. Just enough chaos to make you feel behind, overwhelmed, and slightly annoyed with yourself all day long.

That was me.
I wasn’t failing at life, I was just…not showing up the way I knew I could.
My routine was inconsistent, my goals felt far away, and I kept telling myself, “I will start fresh, first thing tomorrow morning.”
(SPOILER: Indeed, I did not, and tomorrow kept moving.)
So instead of trying to overhaul my entire life (again), I decided to do something different.

I gave myself 5 simple questions.

Not a complicated system. No perfect routine. Just 5 questions that force me to be honest with myself, and more importantly, to take action.

And honestly? They’ve helped me more than any planner, app, or perfect routine ever has.

  1. What am I avoiding right now?
Let’s just go ahead and call it out.
Because most of the time, the thing that’s making everything feel heavy…is the thing we are avoiding.

For me, it usually looks like:
    – Ignoring my budget.
    – Skipping workouts because “I don’t have time.”
    – Putting off something small that turns into something bigger.

And the longer I avoid it, the more mental space it takes up. The moment I ask this question, I already know the answer. And once I name it? It loses a little bit of power.
  2. What would the version of me I’m trying to become do today?
    Not the perfect version.
Not the unrealistic, color-coded, never-misses-a-day version.

    Just the aligned version.

    The one who:
    – Hits her protein goal (or at least tries)
    – Moves her body, even if it’s just a walk.
    – Follows through, on the regular.

This question, helped me shift everything from: “I don’t feel like it” to “but I know what would I do”
And that version on me? She doesn’t overthink. She just…starts.
  3. What actually matters today vs what just feels urgent?
This one is HUGE, especially if you are juggling a household, kids, schedules, and probably another 72 tabs open in your brain at all times.

    Everything feels important.
    Everything feels urgent.

    The truth is, it’s not.

Some things are just loud. This question helps me filter through the noise and actually focus on what moves my life forward, not just what keeps me busy.
  4. If I did the bare minimum well today, what would that be?
This is the question that changed everything for me. Because I used to think that if I couldn’t do everything, I might as well do nothing.

Now? My “bare minimum” is my win.

For me, that usually looks like:
    – Getting started with some kind of movement.
    – Hitting my protein goal (or getting close)
    – Staying within my calories
    – Staying present for my kids and my husband

    That’s it.

Not perfect. Not aesthetic. But effective.
  5. What’s one small thing I can do right now to move forward?

Not later. Not after I feel motivated. Not when I have more time.

    Right now.

Because progress doesn’t come from big, dramatic changes, it comes from small decisions made consistently.

    Sometimes it looks like:
    – prepping one meal
    – taking a 10-minute walk
    – writing down a quick plan

It doesn’t need to be impressive; it just needs to happen.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about direction.

These questions didn’t magically fix everything overnight, but they did something better; they gave me a way to:

– reset without spiraling
– stay consistent without pressure
– and move forward, even on messy days.

Because, let’s be honest, life isn’t slowing down any time soon. But we can get better at showing up in the middle of it.

If you are feeling stuck, start here.

You don’t need a brand new routine.
You don’t need a full life reset.
You don’t need to wait for Monday.

Just pause, and ask yourself:
– What am I avoiding?
– What would the version of me I’m becoming do?
– What actually matters today?
– What’s my bare minimum?
– What’s one small step I can take right now?

That’s it.

Just start here
